SANTA'S REAL RIGHT DAD? // The Answer To The Truth About Santa
This is a photo of Danger the year she learned the truth about Santa.
She was 8, in the 3rd grade.
She was the cutest Rapping Elf there ever was in her school concert. I remember it like it was yesterday. She was overflowing with Joy. Like you’ve never seen this kinda of joy. Her love for Christmas and the North Pole and all things MAGIC was intoxicating.
Then Christmas Came Tumbling Down
She asked me point blank, “be straight with me Dad, Santa’s real right? Some kids at school says he’s not, but you wouldn’t lie to me?”
In a flash, I questioned all of my parenting decisions, Shit Shit. Shit chanted my inside my head voice.
I looked like a deer I headlights. Eyes wide. Mouth open. Instantly sweaty. In case you’re wondering an anxious Nick is a sweaty Nick. I’m a terrible liar, the buckets of sweat are a dead giveaway. And I hate keeping secrets/surprises, it’s too much pressure. Don’t tell me.
I must have taken too long to recover from the stun, like somehow I never expected this giant game to end, because Katherine eventually jumped in, explaining how the story of Santa started so many years ago, and that we carry on that magic for him, parents to children.
All Danger heard was “blah blah blah…we are all a bunch of big dumb liars who should never be trusted again… blah blah blah blah” or something like that.
Basically it went terribly and she hated me for a while. I responded by agonizing about this and all my other parenting failures, because I’m a very useful engine. Katherine, on the other hand, chose to write Danger a book instead. She’s such an over-achiever like that. Always making me look like a slacker.
First the book was all our own. Written and illustrated by Katherine, in a beautiful leather journally thing.
Then she shared it with her Declare Dominion community through a video of her reading her original copy of Danger’s story.
And now, now it lives as a real live, hard cover book! That you can buy on the internet!
::AHEM::
If you are in need of a story about how the Magic of Saint Nicholas doesn’t end, but instead transforms might I suggest my wife’s?
I kind of think we all need a story about how magic can transform these days, don’t you?
The Secret Society of Saint Nicholas is available in both the US Amazon store and the Canadian Amazon store right now!
