SHOULD WE FIX OUR 10 Year Old VAN OR SELL IT?
“I just don’t think I can throw away a 10 year old vehicle.”
Was the thought that kept bubbling to the surface whenever I tried to solve our family vehicle conundrum. “It just doesn’t feel right to me.” A thought I pushed away quickly because, OH MY CUSS I HATE DEALING WITH EVERYTHING TO DO WITH VEHICLES!!
WHAT WENT WRONG WITH OUR 2013 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN?
You see the transmission went on Angelica, our sometimes beloved Dodge Grand Caravan, which happens to be the one and only vehicle our family owns that will fit all 7 of us in it. Yep. It’s been two weeks of shuffling us all around in Eliza, the 4 seater Honda Element, agonizing over the decision laid out in front of us— Do we replace our Dodge Caravan with something new? Or do we invest 5K into fixing her, allowing her to climb the hills of Salt Spring Island packed full of North kids one more day— or like 3 more years, fingers crossed.
SHOULD WE FIX OUR 2013 MINI VAN?
Should she stay? Or should she go?
All I wanted, more than all the jewels, and all the joints in all the world, was to go out, and in one swift and decisive move buy a new hybridor electric vehicle, with a new warranty, and a new clock ticking down to the moment where everything begins to deteriorate and I begin worrying about what I’d do IF my car broke down again. You know, long before it actually did.
And I was going to do it to! I called my friends at Kia Victoria up! BUT! Then when I went to go buy that new, worry-free car, I was hit with the news that apparently there is a “car shortage”?!?!?! Like it’s hard to buy a car right now?!!?
OF COURSE THERE IS!!! BECAUSE WE ARE THROWING THEM OUT EVERY 10 YEARS!!!!
And so even though it might not make the most sense financially, fixing our perfectly lovely, just a little bit busted mini-van does make that, “It just doesn’t feel right to me” feeling go away.
Here’s to fixing the things we have, when we can. Happy Earth Day.
