WHY KRAFT PEANUT BUTTER AND PRONOUNS HAVE A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART.

Thank you to Kraft Peanut Butter for funding this book,
and sponsoring this post, to show Canadians what sticking together looks like.

When I Was Growing Up

There wasn’t always food on the shelves, growing up in my house. There were no warm cookies cooling on the table when I got home from school,  instead, an empty house, and the comforting classic green topped jar of Kraft  Peanut Butter on the counter.

I ate a lot of peanut butter sandwiches growing up. On a fancy day, there might have even been a Banana, and some honey to add to the mix. With a sprinkle of  salt. Cause who’s says, “peanut butter sandwiches can’t be fancy!”?

I love a fancy sandwich!

Now That I’ve Grown Up

30 years later the classic green lidded jar still sits on my counter. My kids  smother it on toast, and english muffins, pack pb&j’s for a hike. They eat it in  healthy smoothies, and as an afternoon snacks in the form of cookies, or as a  spoonful of deliciousness, with a few chocolate chips mixed in for extra fun, or even as my classic staple of the ultimate pb, banana, honey and sea salt  sandwich for the fancy occasions in our kid filled lives.

When Crunchy, and Smoothie, The Kraft Peanut Butter Bears wanted to team up and create the children’s book, “His, Hers, Them & Theirs: Learning Pronouns with the Bears” to help make it easier for Canadian families to talk about  pronouns, and explain why they matter, I jumped at the chance to tell you all a  story, that is about as close to my heart as you can get.

Kraft Peanut Butter is one of the simple joys in life that we all have access to.  Regardless of what schools we went to, what neighbourhood we grew up in,  what type of cars we drive, or what our beliefs, most of us have that classic  green, or red lid somewhere in our kitchen. Even little boy me.

And every time I think of little boy me, seeing Crunchy and Smoothie, celebrating who I am over, while reading along with his after school snack, I  can’t quite believe that I made it here. That we made it here.

Why Learn About Pronouns with Kraft Peanut Butter

Growing up, I knew the way I had to live didn’t fit my true self, but I didn't  have the words to express what I knew inside.

I didn't know there was anyone like me.

I didn't know that I could be myself.

3:30AM Global News call time to talk about how easy it can be to talk about pronouns with kids, and adults alike.

It took me 30 years to figure out who I am, and now that I have been brave enough to live my truth, I am lucky enough to get to tell my story through this children’s book, “His, Hers, Them & Theirs: Learning Pronouns with the Bearswith the  help and support of Kraft Peanut Butter, a brand that's known for consistently  sticking together, both in the LGBTQ2SIA+ community, and in a PG&J.
