RESTING DURING PRIDE IS RESISTANCE

How are you celebrating pride?

If you don’t feel like shouting and screaming and dancing and resisting you are not alone. I personally have run out of words.

It’s June and this is when I should be ramping up!
This is when I should be posting about #pridemonth, celebrating the completion of our show, and creating share worthy reels.

That’s the smart move. That’s how I capitalize. That’s how I celebrate and resist and honour the queer community that came before me... or is it?

Or maybe the honouring is in the rest? In the self care? Is it possible the resistance is in the silence? That the celebration is in the deep rest of our souls?

Because queer people, specifically Black, Brown, and indigenous queer people, have never been allowed to rest. Instead they’ve hid, assimilated, fought, or run.

What if rest is resistance?

What if we didn’t perform all June every year because this is our one shot to prove how far we’ve come? Our one shot at celebrating this trip around the sun.

What if we required more of companies than their allyship one month of the year in the form of a marketing campaign?

I’m out of words right now— not pushing past that internal boundary is how I celebrate being queer today, and that’s just as valid as every parade, every campaign, every March, every flag.

Your rest is resistance too! I don’t know who needs to hear this. I don’t know who needs permission but if it’s you… Consider it granted.
