THE TRUE HEROES OF OUR HOME RENOVATION SHOW

Raise your hand if you’ve cried while living through a renovation!

ALL MY HANDS ARE IN THE AIR.

If you’ve ever lived through a renovation, with kids, on a remote island, you know it’s one of the most stressful things you will ever go through.  Like for real.

Late nights, early mornings, dirt, and grime, and disorder everywhere. You’re out of your normal routine. Your kitchen is torn apart and you are still expected to feed your own family, as well as whoever happens to be there working their butts off for you.  EXCEPT YOUR KITCHEN IS TORN APART AND YOU HAVE NO FRONT DOOR!

It’s impossible.  And yet, we are so lucky!  Lucky for the ability to take on this impossible task of living our Life Under Renovation. <— see what I did there.

HOW WE GOT HERE?

This past June our family took on an adventure and bought a house off of the internet, site unseen, and moved to Salt Spring Island. We knew the house would need some work, but not like this.

In over our heads , we told our woes to the internet, and over instagram, West Oak reached out, right around the same time Ample Entertainment did.

A few weeks later we were filming an HGTV/Discovery+ reality show.

We filmed the show mostly ourselves, on iPhones, while hilariously tearing down all sorts of things and trying to figure out how the hell we were going to put them back together again!

The story of this renovation is too long for one post but the answer TO OUR PROBLEMS Was simple - we just needed some heroes.

Heroes with tool bags… er ummm I hear others call these tool belts. But I think bags is more accurate.

Suncoast Enclosures, Exquisite Electric and Sawmill Structures absolutely made this experience possible.

We could have never finished this project without the help they gave us.

Not only did they give us their time, their skills, and their awesome products, but they also gave us a bit of their hearts.

When you think of people in the construction world you don’t necessarily jump to tender hearted men who care about people, but with these guys, that’s exactly what you get.

These guys will always have the biggest home right in the centre of our hearts. They’ll always have a place in the story of our family.

Before the show starts, and you (or  even we— that’s right, we won’t see our episodes until they air) get to see what we all created, I wanted to take a moment and thank each of them!

If this account has ever helped you, so have they.  So help me in thanking these amazing people who gave so much of themselves to us by giving them a follow, and showing them some love.

Then hire them.

SUNCOAST ENCLOSURES

We knew our sunroom needed a bit of work from the photos on MLS, but we didn’t know that it was basically a deathtrap about to fall off the house. Oh how these guys SAVED OUR BUTTS!

And this is not your grandma’s sunroom. You’ve never seen something so sexy.

SAWMILL STRUCTURES

I can’t tell you much about the people at Sawmill without giving too much of the show away, but I can tell you that they empower you to create something you never thought possible yourself with DIY kits that are actually doable. Delivered to your location, anywhere across Canada. Like by ferry, on Salt Spring Island.

EXQUISTE ELECTRIC

Bryan and Dustin are THE BEST, I’ve never seen anyone work so fast, so full of joy, and so organized. They did the electrical and then pitched in everywhere else! We absolutely could not have done this without them!

And they even came in under budget!

DOUBLE WINNING!

In closing, never under take a home renovation without super heroes.

Might I suggest these ones?

Or you know just don’t buy a house off the internet and try and renovate it yourself. That works too!

But where’s the fun in that?
