REAL TALK RADIO // I TALK DIVORCE, TRANSITION, BLENDING FAMILIES + HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS

Katherine and I had a fight about parenting the other night.

In the bath. Super romantic I know. It was a good one.

It wasn’t actually about the thing it was about, you know how that goes?

We didn’t use any of our skills that help us avoid hurting each others feelings, we were clumsy. Mostly me.

But we caught our selves and stopped, took deep breaths and got to the core of what we were arguing about, set a time limit, and apologized.

We both took ownership of our parts, apologized and moved on.

I tell you this not because after the podcast interview that I am sharing below aired I got a lot of private messages about how I am the greatest dude alive and that all husbands should be like me and that our relationship is everything #couplegoals and more.

ALL THOSE THINGS ARE TRUE…

And yet…

I’m still a jerk more often than I’d like.

I am still grouchy and short, more often than I’d like.

I still only see things from my perspective more often than I’d like.

I pout when we don’t have sex, which is just basically the least attractive thing on the planet.

I AM A MESS JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE…

I am just a mess that happens to know what it’s like to be both a Mom and a Dad. A wife and and husband. I have both of the perspectives which make some things easier and others harder.

With that disclaimer in place, go forth and listen to this killer interview with Nic Antoinette on Real Talk Radio about how I was maybe a shitty wife, without a handbook on how to leave your husband for a woman and then become a man, and how I’m a pretty damn great husband now because my wife and I have done the work to create a pretty damn fantastic family.
