IT'S HAPPENING!

TELLING KATHERINE THAT I WAS TRANS WAS THE EASIEST PART

The truth is that without her, the steadiness and fierceness of her love, I don’t know that I would have found myself. I was way more afraid to admit my transgender identity to myself.

Who would I become. How would I change? Who would I lose?

Everyone, I was sure.

It turns out that life just got better.

Albeit a lot messier at first. But the people I lost were far outnumbered by the love that I gained. My friendships grew closer because I wasn’t hiding so much of myself anymore. My kids got braver and more compassionate because I showed them how. Life got really good.

And yet, I’m still Trans.

I still fight to fit in a world that makes it painful.

As our girl Glennon tells us life is Brutiful. But we can do hard things.

Being transgender is hard. Feeling at odds with my body is hard. Being told I don’t deserve the same rights as others is hard. Finding a safe, clean bathroom to pee in with the modern day luxury of a stall door is RIDICULOUSLY WAY TOO DAMN HARD.

Here’s the thing though, as hard as it is, it’s equal parts beautiful. I will get to have a relationship with my daughters that I could have never imagined as a cis man because I know how terrible period cramps are, and how boys treat you like you don’t have a brain when you’re smarter than all of them, and what it feels like to nurse your baby at 3 in the morning. I will get to have a breadth of experiences that I would never have gotten any other way.

Would I have chosen this path? No.

But is it more beautiful than I could ever have imagined?

Absolutely.

So if you are out there wondering if you can be trans and be loved:

The answer is yes!

The answer is yes, again and again.

So with the help of TELUS STORYHIVE we made a short documentary to show us all that we are worthy of love. That the things that make us different are also the things that make us so beautiful.

So THANK YOU to The Skipping Stone Foundation for planting this idea in our hearts two years ago at The Rainbow Gala. Thank you to TELUS STORYHIVE for funding this GIANT PIECE OF MY HEART.

AND THANK YOU ALL FOR FOLLOWING ALONG!

Starting today we’ll be releasing teasers, with the full official trailer and new website launch coming later this week, and the World Premiere of JUST ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL FAMILY happening Sept 22nd at the Calgary International Film Festival.
